Retain is designed with your privacy in mind. This section explains how your data is handled and protected.

Your Data Stays Yours

Retain does not sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, retargeting, or profiling.

Google API Data: Gmail and Google Calendar data accessed through Retain is never used to develop, train, or improve AI or machine learning models. All use of Google API data complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements.

What We Collect

When you use Retain, we collect information necessary to provide the service:

• Account information – Your email, password, or authenticated Google account to create your profile
• Connected services – Gmail and Google Calendar data you explicitly authorize through OAuth, used solely for productivity features like meeting transcription, email summaries, and semantic search
• Usage data – System diagnostics, device metadata, and interaction patterns to maintain and improve the service
• Payment information – Billing details when you purchase paid services

How Your Data Is Protected

Retain uses industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

• Encryption in transit – All data transmitted between your device and our servers uses TLS encryption
• Encryption at rest – Stored data is encrypted to prevent unauthorized access
• Access controls – We follow least-privilege principles, limiting data access to only what's necessary
• Regular monitoring – Our systems are continuously monitored, audited, and patched for security vulnerabilities

Third-Party Services

We work with trusted service providers for infrastructure, support, and authentication. These providers are contractually required to handle your data securely and confidentially, and may not use it for any purpose other than providing services on our behalf.

We do not share Gmail or Google Calendar data with third parties except as required to operate features you've authorized, or when required by law.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain personal data only as long as necessary to provide the service or as required by law. Gmail and Google Calendar data is stored temporarily to deliver features like summaries and search, then deleted or retained only for short-term sync purposes.
